Privacy Policy

This policy covers the ForecastGeo website, public API, and Android app (com.forecastgeo.app). ForecastGeo provides public news browsing without an account. Questions can be sent to contact@forecastgeo.com.

Information you provide

If you create an account, ForecastGeo receives your email address and password. Passwords are stored as one-way password hashes, not as readable passwords. You may also provide a display name. Saved story records are linked to your account so they can be shown when you sign in on another device.

When you search, your search terms are sent to ForecastGeo so we can return matching stories. The Android app does not request device location. Locations shown on stories describe the reporting, not your physical location.

Information processed automatically

Requests to the site and API may include an IP address, browser or device user agent, requested page or API path, and request time. These details are used to deliver pages, protect the service, and diagnose errors. Account sessions use a first-party, HTTP-only session cookie. We do not use an analytics SDK in the Android app.

How information is used and shared

ForecastGeo uses account information to authenticate you and keep your saved stories available. We do not sell account information. The website uses Google AdSense. Some pages opened from the Android app use Chrome Custom Tabs and may display those website ads. Google and the browser may process advertising or cookie data on those pages under their own privacy terms. You can manage Google's ad personalization at Google My Ad Center.

Retention and deletion

Account information and saved stories remain while your account is active. You can start account deletion in the Android app under Account → Delete account, or visit ForecastGeo account deletion. We ask you to confirm your password. Completing the request removes the account, saved stories, and account sessions from the active database. Short-lived operational logs and backup copies may remain until their normal security and backup rotation periods expire.
